| Carrie Mewha gave Justin his first
pageant break and they still remain extremely close. |
Justin knew he wanted to make his mark in some way beyond message board
posts. Fate gave him a hand in the fall of 2002 when a Miss USA state
titleholder who won a training package from another pageant trainer
became dissatisfied with him. She then turned to Justin to see what
he could do to assist her in her training.
After some initial back-and-forth, he figured out that it was Florida’s
own Carrie Mewha, medical student and Miss USA 2003 pre-pageant favorite.
“I gave everything I had, every ounce of information I knew from
my experiences working for SHAPE magazine, personal training and nutrition
I had learned over the years and just flooded her with information.”
Justin states.
“From there it snowballed. Carrie shared her experience with
her directors- Tel-Air Interests Inc., who then gave me the opportunity
to work with the next winner for Miss Florida USA. Now I work with several
state winners and it’s all because Carrie opened that door for
me.”

It's more than personal training,
it's also a long lasting friendship.

Now a household name in the pageant arena, Justin can be spotted at
every state pageant Built 2 Win sponsors. “Minutes after a state
titleholder is crowned, I’m up on stage introducing myself and
handing my newest “builtgirl,” a welcome packet, my congratulations
and my cell phone number. I tell them to let the win sink in, then to
call me so we can get started.”
At Miss USA and Miss Teen USA, Justin brings flashing light spinner
toys and coach’s whistles, screaming until he’s hoarse and
making a ruckus every time one of his clients sets foot on stage in
her swimsuit. “I tell them to listen for the whistles. I want
them to hear me and know that all that cheering and noise making is
just what’s been going in my heart for them since day one.”
The most exciting thing happening for Built 2 Win? “The Titleholder’s
Toolbox!” Justin exclaims. “ It’s a new option I created
in response to pageant contestants who are self-motivated and very knowledgeable
about fitness, but wanted a custom-designed program and the ingredients
needed to pull off their best body ever on their own without the hand-holding
that they may not want or need. So, I developed a “toolbox”
that I ship to a client’s home, which contains items that in their
own unique combination, provide the strong support for a contestant’s
efforts both in and out of the gym. Who wouldn’t want a box filled
with all the tools you need to get into top form arriving at your front
door?”
|
What contestant wouldn't want a care package covered
in hologram star stickers arriving to her attention at the host
hotel? Whether his "builtgirls" are battling it out
in their bathing suits at Miss USA or Miss Teen USA, the thought
that goes into their surprise boxes is still the same. "You
never know what you may need when you're at the national pageant,
so I try to think of things they'll need to survive those demanding
two weeks," Justin explains. "After digging through
brightly colored layers of tissue paper, my clients are sure to
find things like protein powder, soy snacks, sugarless gum, earring
backs, safety pins, makeup sponges, nutrition bars and much much
more! I like to spoil my builtgirls. After all that work, they
deserve it!"

The word has spread so far, it’s now reached all the right people:
in addition to his overflowing roster of female clientèle in
politics, entertainment reporting and modeling, he’ll be included
in a bride-to-be fitness feature for Modern Bride magazine in the winter.
And just when you thought he could catch his breath, he’s added
yet another client to his stable of beautiful, empowered women: one
of the freshest faces for Cover Girl Cosmetics.
