Miss Florida 2005 (MAO)

Miss Jacksonville Candace Cragg won the Miss Florida 2005 pageant Saturday night, pledging to encourage children to volunteer.Candace, a 22-year-old junior at the University of North Florida majoring in sports physiology, won a $15,000 scholarship and will represent Florida at the Miss America pageant in January.

''I actually am still a little shocked,'' she said shortl after being crowned. ''I feel like this week was just perfect.'' Candace was a double preliminary winner as she won the evening gown on Wednesday night and the talent preliminary on Friday night.

Candace sang the song ''Vienna'' for the talent portion of the competition. In her year long reign, she said she would urge kids to volunteer with a platform called ''Help Wanted! Calling Youth to Serve.'' Candace said she was inspired to volunteer since age 14, when she served food and sang at a homeless shelter.

First runner-up Miss University of Florida Mari Wilensky, 20, (who was a casual wear preliminary winner) will receive a $5,000 scholarship; second runner-up Miss Florida International University Megan Alonge, 24, (another double preliminary winner having won the talent and swimsuit prelims) receives a $4,000 scholarship; third runner-up Miss City Beautiful Denesha Jenkins, 21, receives a $3,000 scholarship; and fourth runner up Miss North Florida Kylie Williams, 21, (a preliminary evening gown winner) won a $2,000 scholarship.

Rounding out the top ten were: Megan Clementi, Miss South Florida Fair; Ashley Hux, Miss Orlando; Danielle Marino, Miss Seminole County; Rachel Potter, Miss Seminole; and Lisa Van Alstine, Miss Four Corners (a preliminary swimsuit winner).
