Kelsey Cartwright is new Miss Oklahoma 2008

Kelsey Cartwright's dreams came true as she was crowned Miss Oklahoma at the 36th annual scholarship pageant Saturday.

The 20-year-old student at Oklahoma City University performed a lyrical dance of "I Want You to Need Me" during the talent aspect of the pageant. Cartwright, who was Miss Keystone Lake, was among 42 young women competing for the title. She will go on to participate in the Miss America pageant next year.

Cartwright, who received a $16,000 scholarship, presented her idea to open adoption to nontraditional families.

"I believe everyone should be treated equally even if they are different than everyone else," Cartwright said during an onstage question-and-answer part of the event.

Tiffany Tolbert, the current Miss Tulsa, was first runner-up and received an $8,000 scholarship.

Miss Langston University, Taylor Byrne, was second runner-up and received a $4,000 scholarship prize.

Third runner up was Miss Oklahoma State Fiar Taylor Treat.

Fourth runner up was Miss Edmund Liberty Fest Emoly West.
