There was magic in the air at the beautiful Sheraton North Houston as 19 beautiful teenagers gathered to compete for the first Miss Teen World. Teenagers from Europe, Asia, Africa, Central and North America came to compete for the title. The stage was set with a beautiful sky and white cloud backgroupd. Silver teardrops were hung to give a shimmer to the stage. The MC for the evening's final event was the stunning Miss United States World 2005 Lizette Diaz. The three judges who would make the very important decision of the winner were: the multitalented, involved in many aspects of pageantry, JJ Smith; Miss Teen USA 2006, hailing from Texas/Montana/California, Katie Blair; and Miss Asia USA 2008 Diane Yoo. All nineteen delegates opened the show with a spirited dance number, all in identical teal blue dresses with hankerchef hemlines. Each steped up to the microphone and announced themselves and their country or city. The announcement of the top ten delegates followed the introductions. They were: Teen Canada Katie Starke, Teen Moscow Aleksandra Kondaurova, Teen Korea Erin Kang, Teen Russia Natalia Kaplenko, Teen Georgia Megan Barney, Teen England Amy Jackson, Teen France Elysia Wiesen, Teen Arkansas Sierra Swanda, Teen Ukraine Kseniya Kapinos, and Teen Texas Katie Gabrisch. While the semifinalists were off changing for the next event, the beautiful Adrianna Nelson graced the audience with her rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone." Swimsuit competition was held to very upbeat music. Each of the semifinalists modeled identical swimsuits provided by the Miss Teen World Organization. After a short intermission the next competition began with the beautiful parade of delegates in evening gown. Each semifinalist came back on stage to give the judges a look in their beautiful gowns. We were treated to hear Adrianna sing again while the tabulation selected the top five. Adrianna, a two time 2nd runner up at th Miss Texas America pageant, sang "Home." The top ten were brough back to the stage for the announcement of the top five. They were: Teen Georgia Megan Barney, Teen Ukraine Kseniya Kapinos, Teen Russia Natalia Kaplenko, Teen Moscow Aleksandra Kondaurova, and Teen England Amy Jackson. Each delegate then drew from the fishbowl a question to answer. While the final tabulation was completed, once again we heard from the beautiful Adrianna. This time she sang "Summertime" from 'Porgy and Bess.' She sounded like an angel. The award for Most Photogenic went to Teen Moscow Aleksandra Kondaurova and Teen Congeniality went to Teen Illinois Victoria Davis. The official announcement of the resutls were as follows: fourth runner up went to Teen Georgia Megan Barney, third runner up went to Teen Ukraine Kseniya Kapinos; and second runner up went to Teen Russia Natalia Kaplenko. That left Teen England and Teen Moscow in center stage clutching hands, waiting for the announcement that would change one of their lives for ever! The first runner up was Miss Moscow Aleksandra Kondaurova. The new Miss Teen World 2009 is Amy Jackson, 16, of Liverpool, England. Amy an aspiring model says she would most like to meet Tyra Banks. She hopes of eventually becoming a lawyer and says she would like to help those in need. This was a well run and executed pageant. The delegates seemed to have a very good time and really enjoyed themselves at the coronation party held directly after the pageant. Our best wishes to Amy as she begins an unforgettable year of travel and service. TO ADD OR UPDATE CONTENT TO TFTJ, use the Submission Forms.
