The 2008 Miss Universe Pageant is under way with the first national representative being named from the country of China. The competition will be held in three cities of Vietnam, HCM City, Hanoi and Nha Trang, from June 15 to July 14. National representatives tend to be selected up to the same month as the internaitonal pageant. For one month, every day competitors will have to attend various programmes organised in the three above cities, including: visiting the Presidential Palace, the Prime Minister’s Office, the People’s Committees of some cities, some charity organisations, attending fashion and music shows, parties, gift auctions, shooting films to advertise Vietnam, participating in parades in Nha Trang city (Tran Phu road) and Hanoi (around Hoan Kiem Lake). Preliminary competition will take place July 8th. Tran Kim Minh, Chairman of Company 584, the builder of the Crown Convention Centre, the major stage for Miss Universe 2008, said expenditures for this project will exceed the estimated $7 million. Nearly 1,000 workers are working both day and night to try to complete the work, which includes a major stage, conference hall, media centre and five-star resort, before May 30.
