Tucsonan Diane Tucker has been crowned Mrs. World 2007 by her predecessor, Russia's Sofia Arzhakovskaya, during the annual Mrs. World contest in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi on Thursday, March 8, 2007. The Mrs. World event began Feb. 18 and ended Thursday. Thirty-five women were scheduled to compete. The Mrs. World and Mrs. America contests are for married women to compete for the titles, emphasizing beauty, poise and being articulate and versatile.
The first runner up was Mrs. Guatamala Vanesa Pente de Alvarez; second runner up was Mrs. China Su Yin Jin; third runner up was Mrs. Estonia Natalja Porh; fourth runner up was Mrs. Kenya Caroline Verkaik; and fifth runner up was Mrs. South Africa Annette Kasselman.
The remaining semifinalists were: Mrs. Germany Nicole Karpe, Mrs. Israel Ravid Neuhaus, Mrs. Ukraine Yulia Ogrokhyna, Mrs. Poland Malgorzata Kozlowsk, Mrs. Belarus Olesya Goncharova, and Mrs. Canada Mai-Lea Dejong.
The top five costume winners were Mrs. Malaysia Beatrice Nirmala Swamiraju, Mrs. Iran Tanya Mohsenian, Mrs. Nigeria Robina Ehana, Mrs. Bolivia Elizabeth Requena de Aviles, and Mrs. Kenya Caroline Verkaik. The Best in Costume was Mrs. France.
The Mrs. Fitness winner was Mrs. Russia Maria Gufronova and the Mrs. Photogenic winner was Mrs. Finland Tea Sillanpaa. Exciting side events happened while in Russia Exciting events happened while at the Mrs. World pageant. Chechen officials said the visit of the Mrs. World delegates demonstrated much-needed lasting peace. The Mrs. World contestants flew into Moscow, and then at one point were taken by Acting Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov’s private jet to an airport in Indgushetia, Chechnya. Chechen officials said the visit of the world’s most beautiful women demonstrated much-needed lasting peace in the war-torn region. On that trip, the contestants were then taken to Gudermes in Chechnya, where they were welcomed with huge bunches of roses, a dinner at Gudermes’ best restaurant and a folk dance concert in the capital of Grozny, The Daily Telegraph reported. The contestants stayed in the acting president’s residence in Gudermes. The ladies also included trips to the Sochi Botanical Gardens and ice skating. While in Chechnya, aware of the Chechen marriage custom of redeeming the bride, the Kenyan contestant, Caroline Verkaik, asked for money for redemption. Acting Chechen president, Ramzan Kadyrov, went away but soon appeared with two horses, a white goat and a couple of hens. Mrs Verkaik was so surprised that she hugged the president and promised to be back next year. “Good guy!” the mother of four said. Acting President Kadyrov was so overwhelmed by the ladies’ beauty that he proposed to Mrs Verkaik - apparently ignoring the "Mrs" in her title - and gave her a goat, as well as a few other inhabitants of his home zoo. More information about Diane Tucker
Diane’s road to the crowns she has received is one made of her own determination. Her parents, Lorraine and Victor Denigris, who now live in Tucson, would not allow their daughter to enter pageants as a young child.
As soon as she turned 19, she entered the Miss Sierra Vista competition in 1996 and won. She later went on to become Miss Tucson in 1999 and the third runner-up to Miss Arizona.
Diane, 29, competed as Mrs. Tucson when she won Mrs. Arizona. In September, she became Mrs. America in a contest in Tucson, giving her the right to compete for the Mrs. World crown. From her national title, she also took home cash and prizes totaling more than $100,000.
Diane, a Tucson resident for 12 years, graduated from Buena High School in Sierra Vista in 1995 and has been married to Thomas Tucker, a firefighter, for five years. She is an account executive for Argent Mortgage Co. and has volunteered with the Southern Arizona Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
