Story by: Sheila Strasburg
The Mrs. International pageant was held in Chicago, IL, on July 18 and 19, 2008. Mrs International 2007 Rebekah Negrete was on hand to crown her successor. Despite the winds and rain trying to reak havoc with the delegates getting back and forth to the auditorium, from a hair and makeup artist's point of view, all the delegates managed to look quite beautiful on stage. Their hair and makeup was amazing. The Mrs. International pageant has announced a partnership with the GO RED Campaign, for women's heart health. The opening number performed by all delegates was to a new special Go Red song composed for the pageant. The delegates wore matching black cocktail dresses. The MC's for the pageant were Tracy Borgardt and Kyle Henry. They were fantastic and kept the pageant moving at a smooth pace. The aerobic wear modeled by the delegates was either pink or lavender, the delegates choice. The new Mrs. International 2008 is Laine Berry, 34, who competed as Mrs. South East. Laine has been married to her husband, Kevin, for 12 years. The first runner up was Mrs. Georgia Meredith Boyd, second runner up was Mrs. South Carolina Patti Mercer, third runner up was Mrs. DC Deanna Linz, and fourth runner up was Mrs. Oklahoma Sasha Townsend. The remaining semifinalists were: Mrs. Tennessee Tiffany Love, Mrs. Massachusetts Jessica Plante, Mrs. Virginia Joy Pfister, Mrs. New York Lori Donaudy, and Mrs. North Carolina Shannon Devine. Prelim Results Mrs. Southeast Laine Berry won the photogenic award. She also won the fitness award and best evening gown award. More information about Laine Berry
Laine and Kevin Berry are Co-owners of Adworks Concepts and Design they are partners in business and life. A 1995 graduate of the University of Central Arkansas, Laine utilizes her degree in Communications to advance the life saving message of Women’s Heart Disease Education and Awareness. Cardiovascular Disease kills almost 500,000 American women a year. Laine and her mother were almost part of that statistic, when in 2000 Laine’s mother underwent triple bypass surgery, and Laine was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. Laine founded “Taking Wellness to Heart”, a 501(c)3 focused on educating women to the dangers they face from heart disease. Laine became a volunteer with the American Heart Association, and over the last 8 years has served as a spokesperson and lobbyist for the organization. She was a member of the Heartland Affiliates “Go Red for Women” initialization action committee, and was asked to introduce “Go Red for Women” to the Arkansas Legislature in 2003. Laine has been a participant in the authoring and passage of the 2003 BMI Bill, the 2005 Arkansas Clean Indoor Air Act, and the 2007 AED Bill. Laine was named the 2005 “Arkansas Community Hero” for her efforts on behalf of women’s heart health. The Berrys' were honored to serve on the board of directors for the 2008 Arkansas Heart Ball, which raised 1.1 million dollars for the American Heart Association.
