The 21st annual Mrs. United States Pagent took place this week in sunny Las Vegas, with 54 of the most beautiful and commplished women from across our country, and U.S. Territories, coming together to celebrate marriage.

Since 1996, Mrs. United States has utilized Las Vegas as their host city, with this year's event taking place at the Silverton Hotel and Casino. An outdoor theater was set up for the ladies, who competed in swimsuit, gown and on-stage question under a beautiful and starry Vegas night. (Delegates competed in panel interview earlier in the week and had their preliminary stage competition the evening before.)

WIth a wonderful band providing the background music, MC's for the evening, Todd Newton (from Entertainment Weekly) and Shannon Devine (Mrs. United States 2006) called down the top ten:

Mrs. Wyoming Wendy Knapp, Mrs. New York Lori Donaudy, Mrs. Vermont Dr. Stephanie Mills, Mrs. Florida Janet McCulloh, Mrs. West Virgina Elizabeth Kae Vance, Mrs. North Carolina April Storms-Britt, Mrs. Illinois Amy Gregario, Mrs. U.S. Virgin Islands Ginny Merryman, Mrs. Michigan Stephanie Hunt, and Mrs. New Hampshire Oneta Bobbett.

Each was asked a question about their platform or the cause they are promoting, along with a question about marriage. The very excited finalists quickly changed into their swimsuits and then evening gowns for their final moments to wow the judges. (Note: delegates had the opportunity to wear a one or two piece swimsuit this year for competition, and let me tell you, this pageant veteran has never seen so many amazingly toned bodies in one pageant. I saw more six-packs than in an NFL commercial!).

Before the runners-up and the new Mrs. United States were announced, a bevy of other awards were given:

Photogenic - Mrs. Montana Amber McDonald (and her baby - she's 7 months pregnant)
Mrs. Congeniality - Mrs. West Virgina Elizabeth Kae Vance
Audience's Choice - Mrs. Hawaii Dr Julie Chang

And now, the moment we were all waiting for ...

fourth runner up - Mrs. Illinois Amy Gregorio; third runner up - Mrs. Florida Janet McCulloh; second runner up - Mrs. Wyoming Wendy Knapp; and first runner up - Mrs. North Carolina April Storms-Britt.
