Click here for pictures of the event! The Miss World 2009 pageant was once again held in Johannasburg, South Africa at the Sandton Convention Centre.
The reigning Miss World 2008 Ksenia Sukhinova was on hand to crown her successor.
Final Results
The official top 16 delegates were: Japan (Sports Winner); Canada (Talent Winner); Sierra Leone (Talent Winner); Mexico (Top Model Winner); Gibraltar (Beach Beauty Winner); India (Beauty with a Purpose Winner); Korea; Martinique; Colombia; Poland; Brazil; France; Vietnam; Kazakhstan; South Africa; and Panama.
The official top 7 were Colombia; Panama; Canada; Mexico; Gibraltar; South Africa; and France.
Kaiane Aldorino, Miss Gibraltar has won the coveted crown as Miss World 2009, triumphing out of 112 beautiful and talented young women in the 59th Miss World Final.
As the final duty in her reign, Miss World 2008 Ksenia Sukhinova removed the bejeweled crown to place it on the head of her successor as the new Miss World 2009. Taking up her deserved position on the throne, Miss World 2009 was joined by first runner-up Mexico and second runner-up South Africa
Lost for words amid all the excitement and emotion of the event, Gibraltar distilled her tear-filled feelings into a few poignant words: “My time has come. I am living a dream that I pray will never end.”
India was also announced as the winner of the Miss World Beauty With A Purpose Award for her inspirational charity works.
The glittering two-hour spectacular showcased the beauty and talent of 112 of the World’s most incredible young women, who have spent one month enjoying the wonders of South Africa.
Presenters of the show were China’s leading TV presenter Angela Chow, South African TV host Michelle McLean, and Miss World Event Director Steve Douglas. They were joined on stage by very a special guest from India, former Miss World and Bollywood superstar Priyanka Chopra.
Entertainment came from South African talent was represented by international stage sensation Umoja. Miss World’s own talent was showcased with jaw-dropping performances by Talent Final winners Canada and Sierra Leone, Korea and Norway. The show was screened around the globe, with many countries taking it live to a massive TV audience.
The Mayor of Johannesburg was also in attendance to see the new Miss World crowned and to receive the thanks of the contestants for helping make their stay in the City of Gold such a memorable one. The Miss World flag was handed over to Vietnam, hosts of Miss World 2010.
Official judges at the Miss World 2009 Final were:

After the Final, the contestants attended the Coronation Gala, where they dined with family and new friends from around the world.

Fast Track Winners
After a series of competitions -held at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Port Elizabeth, future venue of the World Cup 2010- which included a sports battle between four teams, the Top 12 finalists competing for the Miss World Sports Fast Track were announced.
They are: Miss Jamaica, Miss Hungary; Miss India; Miss Japan; Miss Latvia; Miss Puerto Rico; Miss Sierra Leone; Miss Gibraltar; Miss Trinidad and Tobago; Miss Venezuela; Miss Australia; and Miss Uruguay.
After a series of competitions, the Top 5 finalists were chosen; but there was a tie in the 5th position, so six ladies advanced to the next stage. They were Miss India, Miss Hungary, Miss Japan, Miss Jamaica, Miss Latvia and Miss Venezuela.
Miss Japan, Eruza Sasaki, became the winner of the Miss World Sports Fast Track Event held at the Nelson Mandela Bay Football Stadium in Port Elizabeth. Sasaki beat 111 other women at this competition which reunited various sports disciplines like soccer and track and field.
Third place (Bronze) went to Miss Hungary, while Second Place (Silver) went to Miss Jamaica. And of course, 1st place and the Gold medal went to Japan.
By winning this award, Miss Japan automatically advances to the Top 15 semi finalists at the big Miss World 2009 finale on December 12th. And she also breaks a dry spell: The last time Japan placed in the Miss World Semi Finals was in 1981.

Miss Gibraltar, Kaiane Aldorino, was chosen the winner of the Beach Beauty Fast-track competition held in Zimbali, November 25th. Aldorino is now fast-tracked into the semi finals. It is the very first time that Gibraltar places in the finals of the Miss World contest.
The 1st runner-up was Miss Panama, Nadege Herrera; while the 2nd runner-up was Miss Scotland, Katharine Brown.
Third runner up was Miss France, Chloe Mortaud and the fourth runner up was Miss Bolivia, Flavia Foianini.
The judges had reduced the initial group of 112 contestants to just 44; then a top 20 was announced. After the first competition, the girls were reduced to a Top 12, and then the final 5.
Top 12 finalists were: Barbados, Indonesia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.
In the Top 20 was: Croatia, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Jamaica, Korea, Namibia, United States, Uruguay
The First Lady of South Africa travelled to Durban specially to attend the show.
The top 12 finalists for the World Designer Award are
Barbados, China PR, Italy, Sierra Leone, Turkey, Panama, France, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Korea and Moldova
The winner gets the World Designer Award, given to the most beautiful and creative evening gown.
Miss Sierra Leone has just been chosen by the judges as the winner of the World Designer Award for her evening gown.

Barbados, Guatemala and India were today announced as the Beauty With A Purpose finalists. The winner will be announced tomorrow during the liveshow and go through to the Miss World Semi-Final and last sixteen of the competition. Beauty With A Purpose was introduced by Julia Morley more than 25 years ago and since then more than $400 million have been raised in it’s name in support of children’s charities across the globe.
The special annual award programme singles out and recognises the Miss World contestant who has shown, through charitable works, to have made a real difference to people in need in her homeland. Charity work is integral to the Miss World ethos and part of the brief to contenders in each country is that they volunteer their time or fundraise for charity.
