Delegates from as far away as Hawaii arrived in Austin, Texas on October 5, 2007 to begin an exciting weekend filled with glamour, competition, and friendship, at the 3rd annual national United America Pageant. This year was the first year for multi titles, instead of just the Mrs. title, at the pageant. United America’s philosophy of “Exceptional Elegance” was once again upheld with the women ranging in age from 13-50, to compete for the national United America 2007 titles of: Teen, Miss, Ms., Mrs., and Ms. Classic.

Friday’s Orientation gave the state delegates a chance to mingle and to meet Mrs. United America 2006, Donna Brown. Each delegate received a patriotic canvas gift bag embroidered with her state’s name and filled with gifts from the pageant, sponsors, and other delegates. A formal dinner with the delegates attired in cocktail wear followed. Delegates also enjoyed visiting with several national sponsors who shared their beautiful merchandise with everyone. The dinner party ended with several stories from delegates about funny situations that happened to them during their pursuit for the crown.

Competition began Saturday morning with private interviews. The judges for the 3rd annual United America Pageant were: Gloria Gochiacoa, Jim Lyde, Jane McAllister, and Dr. Michael Miller. Diversity was plentiful in the lovely group of delegates, which included a doctor, banking associates, an ordained minister, a national beauty consult, a developmental child daycare provider, a lawyer, a flight attendant, an actress, a registered dietitian, and a thoroughbred horse racing/breeding company owner. All of the 2007 state delegates were interesting and unique!

After their interviews, the delegates changed into blue jeans and boarded a bus to Hill Country and a visit to The Salt Lick barbeque - a Texas tradition! Live country music and the smell of delicious BBQ filled the air as the delegates enjoyed a family-style Texas BBQ meal fit for a Queen. Photo opportunities were plentiful among the beautiful trees, smoking BBQ pits, and with the friendly visitors who came over to greet the delegates.

Saturday evening the delegates were treated to a special cruise hosted by Lone Star Riverboats. Delegates mingled and dined on wonderful Tex-Mex fare while they anticipated the arrival of thousand of bats - yes, BATS! Bat-watching aboard a riverboat is listed among the Top 10 events to do while in Austin! As the sun set, and the boat cruised up and down the Austin river, thousands of bats entertained everyone as they came out of the bridge for their nightly flight. Fireworks completed the outing.

Sunday morning held rehearsals and final pageant preparation. The pageant began with the delegates presenting an opening number attired in black cocktail dresses and gloves. Each delegate competed in Fitness and Evening gown. Some of the contestants presented competed in the talent competition, such as Mrs. Hawaii and Miss Texas. Former Mrs. Austin 2000, Kay Davis, and Mrs. United America 2006, Donna Brown, emceed the pageant. Entertaining the audience and providing wonderful music for the pageant were Bruce Banks and Andrea Hope.

Mrs. United America 2006 - Donna Brown gave her farewell walk while Director Annette Rushing gave a heartfelt thanks to Donna for a wonderful year filled with appearances and support for the United America Pageant. Many volunteers who helped put together the pageant were also recognized and thanked with a rose before the new 2007 titleholders were announced.

Reigning Mrs. United America Donna Brown crowned an exciated Deanna Bebeau the new Mrs. United America 2008! Deanna competed at Mrs. Oregon.
