Maria Julia Mantilla Garcia Eric Morley, Founder of the Miss World Pageant, began the Miss World competition in 1951. The pageant has held to encourage visitors to the Festival of Britain, to cross Waterloo Bridge to his dance hall. The BBC televised Miss World from 1959 to 1979 and Thames Television carried it from 1980 to 1988. At its peak, the show drew an audience of 27.5 million in Britain alone.
