New Miss Earth Crown Revealed

The Miss Earth crown has become a symbol of unparalleled pulchritude and enduring advocacy through the years. To underscore and remind the Miss Earth titleholders the responsibilities that come with this crown, Carousel Productions commissioned the Official Jeweller of Miss Earth, Ms. Ramona Haar, an ecologically-minded artist, to design and craft a new Miss Earth crown. This radiant masterpiece that embodies a broader meaning of “beauties for a cause” was unveiled last November 16, 2009.

The new design features various gemstones endemic to the countries participating in Miss Earth Pageant, which they donated as a symbol of cooperation and unity towards a universal goal of saving Mother Earth. To lessen the environmental impact of mining, the new crown is made of 100% recycled 14K Gold and Argentums Sterling Silver. The central design is a flower to symbolize a happy and thriving earth. As Ralph Waldo Emerson puts it, “the earth laughs in flowers.” The recurring spiral motif, on the other hand, has always been associated with maternal power and feminine prestige.

But the gems are the highlights of this masterpiece. Black Diamonds, Sardonyx, Calcite, Ruby, Jade Quartz Crystal, Garnet, Peridot, and Pearls are some of the stones that adorn the exquisite Miss Earth crown. Gathered from 80 of the participating countries this year, the stones signify more than just the Earth's precious resources. They characterize the diverse backgrounds, cultural significance, and mystical embodiment of our beauties. Although they come in different shapes, sizes, color and finish, they all form an integral part of the most coveted Miss Earth crown in undeniable harmony. Just like the crown, the Miss Earth beauties work together to have all nations unite in our joint efforts to help preserve and protect our one and only home: the planet Earth.

Delegates wanted for Miss and Teen Florida

The only beauty pageant in the world that focuses all its efforts on environmental protection and education is now ready to choose Florida’s official representatives to the national finals. On May 22, Miami will welcome beauties from all corners of the state who will vie for the greenest crowns in the industry, Miss Earth Florida and Teen Earth Florida 2010.

“We are part of Miss Earth, one of the three largest pageants in the world with more than 80 countries participating each year,” explained Sandra Silva, Florida Pageant Director. “It all starts here. Girls from all over Florida come to represent their towns. The Florida winner then travels to Las Vegas for a chance to become Miss Earth United States, who in turn represents our nation in the world finals of Miss Earth in Asia.”

The Earth pageants are not all talk. Titleholders actually spend their reining year making all type of appearances that range from glamorous engagements such as magazine and TV interviews to greener activities as planting trees, cleaning up beaches and speaking to children about eco-friendly ways of living. Even the several fashion shows these ladies participate in have an environmental side, featuring eco-friendly designs. In fact, it is required from these girls that they come up with a green project to develop in their immediate communities with the possibility to push it state wide.

Just in 2009, the Florida Miss and Teen Earth queens participated as leaders or workshop conductors in events such as Miami Living Green Expo, MIAGreen Expo, Lowdermill Beach monthly clean-ups, Voices for Children Foundation walk, Pelican Bay clean-up, Collier County Cartridge recycling program, Orlando Green Up Campaign Coastal Clean-up, Lakeland’s Green Fair, Clean the World Foundation benefit gala, Save the Bay Swim, Operation Cabinet and many more such activities.

Nationally, the Florida queens did well in the 2009 Miss Earth United States pageant in Las Vegas last August. Miss Teen Earth Florida, Jolie Schamber, became the new Miss Teen Earth United States winner; Aubrey J. Carr, Miss Teen Earth Southwest Florida was second runner up and earned the title of Teen Water United States and Michelle Piwko, Miss Earth Florida, placed in the top 10 among 60 national delegates.

For the 2010 season, pageant organizers are inviting young ladies ages 14 to 17 for the Teen division, and 18 to 26 for the Miss division, to register before May 10. All cities and towns in Florida are invited.

“Unlike other pageant systems, we do not hold preliminary pageants in different cities in Florida,” explained Silva. “Girls can register directly and won’t need to go through additional and costly steps in order to get to the state competition. We’d like every region to be represented by one or more girls.”

The process starts with requesting an application from pageant organizers and submitting it back before May 10 with other required paperwork.

The areas of competition are swimsuit, evening gown, interview and environmental awareness.

“No need to be an environmental expert,” said Silva. “But loving our planet and being willing to learn and teach ways in which we can preserve it is a requisite.”

Besides the right to represent Florida at the national level, winners of these pageants receive official crown and sash, all expenses paid trip to Las Vegas for the national pageant, pageant coaching, three professional fashion photo shoots, fitness training, make up classes and products, diamond pendant, public speaking and leadership coaching, personal growth sessions with experts in the industry, beauty accessories and gift certificates, beauty magazine subscriptions and many other gifts.

“We would like to offer a scholarship prize as well and we are actually pursuing sponsors who would like to support this effort,” said Silva.

The Florida Earth Pageants are produced by Integral Beauty Productions LLC. Current pageant sponsors include Eyes Wide Open Wellness, Complexo Kitchen Design, La Casa Hermosa, Savvy Magazine, Casper Lynn Photography, Trilogy Collection and QDazzle.

Miss Earth East Coast joins the relief effort in Burma!

Carleen Ramlochansingh, Miss Earth Trinidad & Tobago and Amaris Acosta, Miss Caraibes Hibiscus United States, in association with Step Up Pageants International are reaching out to the International community to assist with relief efforts in Burma.

The cyclone most devastatingly affected the area of Mayanmar, one of the 20 poorest regions in the world, displacing over 2 Million people with an unconfirmed toll of 100,000 lives. With much of the region cut off from clean water, many more lives may be lost due to the spread of infection.

In light of the recent tragedy, Step Up Pageants International, producers of the Miss Earth East Coast and Miss Earth Trinidad & Tobago Pageants, are dedicating this year's competition to the aid of relief efforts in the region. A portion of this years ticket sales, combined with the fundraising efforts of the delegates themselves, will go directly to assist relief efforts in Myanmar- with an emphasis on providing clean water to the area, which will help prevent the spread of disease. Any business wishing to assist can go to http://stepuppageants.tripod.com and follow the "Cyclone Relief" link.
