Miss Oakland County Outstanding Teen holds second annual fundraiser
Submitted by: Paula Rowley
On May 3, 2008 Carleigh Corrion Rowley hosted the second annual 'Misses with a Vision' fundraiser benefiting Leader Dogs for the Blind. This years event raised nearly $1000.00 Leader Dogs for the Blind which is located in Rochester, Michigan. The event included lunch catered by The Stockpot; silent auction; entertainment performed by local title holders in the Miss America Organization: Outstanding Teen and Miss contestants all vying for the titles of Miss Michigan Outstanding Teen and Miss Michigan in June; PLUS Leader Dog Puppies to play with. Carleigh is 14 years old and currently Miss Oakland County's Outstanding Teen. She will enter Garber High School in the fall as a freshman. Leader Dogs for the Blind is her platform of choice in the Miss America Outstanding Teen Organization. In June, Carleigh will compete in Muskegon with 23 other high school girls from across the state for the title of Miss Michigan Outstanding Teen and the opportunity to represent Michigan in the Miss America Outstanding Teen Pageant in Orlando in August. This will be Carleigh's second trip to Michigan's Outstanding Teen stage as she represented Bay County last year winning the non-finalist talent award and a $200.00 scholarship. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/Mom2CarleighAndCamren/IMG_0167website.jpg

Kim Parrish Named President of Miss America's Outstanding Teen
Miss Americas Outstanding Teen, Inc., a little sister to the Miss America Organization that promotes scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living and community involvement for America's teens, has named TV fashion commentator and entrepreneur Kim Parrish as president. A former Miss West Virginia (1992), Kim is the creator of The Kim Parrish Collection clothing line on HSN and HSN.com. (see www.kimparrishcollection.com and www.maoteen.org) Kim Parrish has volunteered with the Miss America Organization for the past 15 years, including directing the Miss West Virginias Outstanding Teen competition and serving as a judge for the national finals in Orlando. I intend to help develop a strong financial foundation and expand national recognition for this outstanding organization and its participants, says Kim. In todays fast-paced world, teens cant afford to look to young Hollywood for role models. They need to find inspiration within themselves, their families, schools and community. Through its exceptional mentoring program, Miss Americas Outstanding Teen provides leadership and scholarship opportunities for teens, that will help them prepare for successful futures. As a result of spending eight years as a popular TV shopping host on QVC, she is a familiar face to millions of viewers across the country, and has been featured in dozens of articles from TV Guide to the New York Times. Her TV assignments have taken her to Ireland, Italy and across the USA, including to Salt Lake City, where she reported on the 2002 Winter Olympics. She also has appeared in hundreds of television, theatre and off-Broadway productions. In 2005 she launched the Kim Parrish Collection, a designer-inspired clothing line, on HSN. A graduate of West Virginia University with a Bachelors degree in fine arts, and a native of Parkersburg, West Virginia, Kim resides in the Tampa Bay area with her husband and their son.
