Click here for pictures of the event! Latest News: Miss North Dakota Ashley Young of Grand Forks was named Miss Congeniality at the Miss America 2008 pageant. Young, 20, is the first from the state to win Miss Congeniality. The Miss North Dakota 2007 Pageant took place June 14-16, 2007 at the Williston High School in Williston, ND. Ashley Young, Miss Grand Fork, who was 1st RU last year, moved up one spot and gained the Miss North Dakota America 2007 title. The 19-year-old student at North Dakota State University in the Music/Vocal Performance department took the crown after dazzling the crowd with her opera vocal titled “Mein Herr Marquis.” The graduate of Red River High School has chosen to take on bullying as her platform, “Stop Bullying in Schools: Saving the Spirit of a Child.” A relative new-comer to the Miss North Dakota Scholarship Pageant, Young has had success from the beginning. In the 2006 competition, she was named first runner-up when Baldwin's Annette Olson was crowned.
The first runner up, Miss Star of the North Jenni Click, who was absent from the North Dakota state last year, was second runner up in '05. She is a University of North Dakota student and is a vocalist. Her platform concern is "Growing Good Kids-Leadership Education for Our Youth." She was the overall interview winner.
Miss Fargo, Tessie Jones, was second runner up. This was her third trip to Miss North Dakota and last year she was third runner up. She is a student at Moorhead State University and is a pianist. Her platform concern is "Improving Mental Health to Prevent Suicides."
The third runner up was Miss Lake Agassiz,Tina Domagala. This was her fourth trip to the North Dakota state pageant and she was fourth runner up in '04. She is a tap dancer and attends the University of Mary. Her platform concern is "Project Me: Discovering Your Self-Esteem." The fourth runner up was Katie Weaver, Miss Red River Valley, who was Top 10 last year and 2nd RU in 04. She attends North Dakota State University and performed an acro-jazz dance for talent. Her platform concern is "Mental Health Awareness."
The remaining semifinalists were: Miss Ft Ambercrombie- Clare Dyste- vocal (tie-Prelim SS); Miss Northern Lights- Stephanie Richter- vocal (Prelm Talent); Miss Peace Garden- Alyson Wilhemli- vocal; and Miss State Capital- Serena Christianson- tap dance. North Dakota Trivia:
North Dakota is another on the list of states that have not produced a Miss America. In fact, they have yet broken the top five ranking. They first cracked the semifinalist position when Donna Grotberg made the cut in 1977. Tina Curran returned North Dakota to the top ten again in 1989. Roxanna Saberi again cracked the top ten ranks in 1998. In 2008 Ashley Youg was named Miss Congeniality. TO ADD OR UPDATE CONTENT TO TFTJ, use the Submission
